July long weekend (Canada Day Holiday), probably the busiest weekend of the year in the town of Osoyoos during the Osoyoos Annual Cherry Fiesta.

Crafts and foods fair, cherry pit spitting contest, loads of fun activities for kids and a great fireworks show on July 1st make this one of the best Osoyoos festivals & fairs.

If you're visiting Osoyoos BC for this event and you plan to drive to and from the town from nearby communities, expect the usual 40 minute drive back to Penticton to take a couple of hours. Traffic from out of town is tremendous!

August Osoyoos festivals fairs & events brings the Lions Club Bluegrass Festival is a great outdoor music festival that is held for 4 days. Visitors are invited to bring their own harmonica, banjo, or whatere bluegrass instrument you have, and join in.

If you're not a musician, you can listen and enjoy the entertainment.

Have you ever been to an Oktoberfest celebration?

Think schnitzel, red cabbage, sauerkraut, 'karroten' (german for carrots) in beer, juicy bratwurst and warm potato salad, with apple strudel and german chocolate cake for dessert!

Ja, bitte! I'll have some of everything!

With family names like Hermann, Helga, Heidi and Erika, you can bet we grew up with crockpot cabbage fermenting in the kitchen, red cabbage at Christmas, dad's favorite sauerbraten, and granma's rich buttercream cake! Brother's Andy and Marty didn't get the full traditional names, but they certainly did get the good food!

Back to Oktoberfest....not to mention the entertainment - get down and Oompa with traditional Oompa-pa music and German 'drinking songs' as well as yodeling! Oktoberfest is one of Osoyoos festivals fairs & events most delicious! It's all about the best in traditional German cuisine and great German beer, which I'm thinking that you're thinking I'm crazy about and you're right, and fun traditional music.
